RESIDENTS of the Spennymoor parish can sit down for tea with the town’s new civic dignitaries next weekend.

The Mayoress of Spennymoor, Councillor Judith Machin, will host the tradition ‘at home’ event at Spennymoor Town Hall on Saturday, June 17.

She is inviting people to join her for afternoon tea and cakes, between 2pm and 4pm.

Her husband, the Mayor of Spennymoor Councillor Ian Machin, will also attend the event which will be free.

Cllr Machin said: “This is a lovely traditional event and I am really looking forward to meeting as many as people as possible.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for people to come and meet myself and the mayor and enjoy a chat over a cup of tea.”

There will be a tombola and raffle and money raised on the stalls will go to the mayor’s nominated charities which are 1st Byers Green Scouts group and Durham Mining Museum, at Spennymoor Town Hall.

Local schools, churches and businesses that have been invited are asked to reply this week so organisers have an an indication of numbers to cater for.
