A BOY will put his own health problems to one side for a six mile charity walk in aid of children with cancer.

Alex Miller will hike from Farmfoods in Spennymoor, where mother Sarah works, to Morrisons in Bishop Auckland, where grandfather Alan Reed is a security guard.

The eight-year-old, who attends King Street Primary School, in Spennymoor, decided to raise money for Clic Sargent after Mr Reed told him about the store's chosen charity.

His family are proud of the thought and effort he will put into fundraising, particularly as they know long-distance walking is a challenge for him. He was diagnosed with hypomobility which affects his joints and leaves him exhausted.

"He loves to help charities and said those children need more than him," said Mr Reed.

He has been sponsored £400 so far, which Farmfoods will boost. To donate visit justgiving.com/fundraising/sarah-miller58
