A ROLLER skating club hosted a celebratory disco after members triumphed at a national competition.

The Spectrum Roller Skating Club enjoyed great success at the Bolton Opens contest in Lancashire, with the nine-strong team securing 14 medals.

And last Friday, their coaches rewarded them with a special glow party and disco at Shildon Sunnydale Leisure Centre.

More than 30 skaters, aged between three and 45, attended the bash, which parent volunteers made extra special by organising everything from glow sticks, sweet cones and balloons, to a popcorn cart.

There was also a tombola, which along with popcorn and sweet sales, raised £30. This will be used to hire more skates.

The event was such a success that the club, which also trains at the Spectrum Leisure and Community Centre in Willington, has decided to host more roller discos.

The discos will take place at Shildon Sunnydale on Friday evenings from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, and entry will be £3 plus £1 for skate hire.

Anyone who has their own skates, however, is encouraged to bring them along as skate hire is limited.

This week’s theme will be gold.

Anyone able to support the club to increase their skate hire resources to allow more children to take part, can contact club founder Tracy Stevens on 07891-461958.
