OLDER people in the Spennymoor area are invited to a Keep Warm, Keep Well coffee morning later this month.

Age UK County Durham will hold the event at Spennymoor Fire Station on Wednesday, October 25 between 10am and noon.

Free refreshments will be available, everyone will get a Keep Warm Keep Well information pack and the charity's team will offer people the help and information they need to keep warm and safe this winter.

There will also be free safety checks on small household electrical items such as kettles, electric blankets or heaters.

The information and advice team will be present to help older people save money and to assist them in making sure they are receiving any benefits they may be entitled to or support grants to help them afford to keep their home warm.

The Come Eat Together team will promote their activities providing good food with good company.

The Beat the Scammers team will have plenty of tips on how to handle nuisance telephone calls and will take referrals to install free call blockers in the homes of those in need of extra help.

Fire Officers will also be available to offer advice and support to older people.
