OLDER people who run the risk of being targeted by scammers will get advice during a free event.

The charity Age UK County Durham has teamed up with Virgin Money to organise a free event at Bishop Auckland Town Hall on Tuesday, January 23.

Advisors will help people learn how to protect themselves from many types of fraudulent scams including telephone, post or email.

Such cons are becoming increasingly common and older people are targeted, sometimes losing valuable savings and left stressed and anxious.

Everyone who attends will get a Beat the Scammers Information Pack and there will be a £1 raffle with a main prize of a £50 call blocker to prevents nuisance calls getting through on your phone.

Free refreshments will be provided.

The event, supported with funding by County Durham Community Foundation, will be held in The Elgar Room at Bishop Auckland Town Hall, Market Place, on January 23, from 10am to noon.
