A FOLK museum is seeking new volunteers ahead of the summer season.

The Weardale Museum in Ireshopeburn is a popular heritage attraction, providing an insight into the lives of those who lived and worked in the rural communities of Weardale over the centuries. Run entirely by volunteers, it also specialises in providing family history research for people with ancestors from the area.

More volunteers are needed this year and there are a number of ways people can get involved. These include: becoming a trustee and helping to make decisions and shape the future at monthly meetings; becoming a Friend of the Museum; joining the team of stewards; talking to visitors about the artefacts and displays; helping with housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, painting and decorating; carrying out maintenance around the museum; researching new stories, artefacts and photographs and creating new displays; and helping to preserve, conserve and protect the collection.
