KIND-hearted children have handed over hundreds of pounds to a charity that looks after poorly people and their families.

Pupils in the Emeralds house group at Cockfield Primary School led a series of fundraising initiatives in aid of Butterwick Hospice, in Bishop Auckland.

In December they held a table-top stall at the school Christmas fair and a reindeer run and earlier this month they took part in a sponsored silence.

Last week youngsters delivered the £332.71 raised to the hospice, which provides day services, home care and outreach help for people with life limited illnesses.

Teacher Fay Gregson said: "We were given a tour of the hospice which the children found very valuable. All of the children in school have enjoyed the fundraisers and were very proud to support the wonderful work they do at the hospice."
